Lliga Reumatològica Catalana launched its initiative “School of Spondylitis”

The Lliga Reumatològica Catalana in cooperation with the group of Rheumatologists of ESPOcat (Grup d’Espondiloartritis de la Societat Catalana de Reumatologia), launched in February 2018 an initiative under the title “School of Spondylitis”. The overall aim of this initiative is to improve the quality of life of the people affected by Spondyloarthritis (SpA), through a specially designed physical exercise program. The programme has been designed by a multidisciplinary group of professionals, experts in ankylosing spondylitis, and is adapted to the needs of the patients.

This programme will last for 5 months and will take place at Lliga Reumatològica Catalana’s premises in Barcelona, while the weekly physical exercise sessions contain one 1,5 hour of physical exercise at the gym and 1 hour pool session. All sessions will be directed by a physiotherapist and the groups will be made up of 10 people.

Many studies the last years have been shown that physical exercise adapted to the person affected of ankylosing spondylitis is a fundamental and very important measure as complement to the pharmacological treatment, for the patients in order to enjoy a good quality of life.
